Kia ora koutou Welcome to our very first newsletter! I am so excited to be sharing this juicy info with you all and can't wait to let you know what's been going on behind the scenes at Red Tent Aotearoa. For those that are hearing about The Red Tent movement for the first time, please let me fill you in. Red Tents have been popping up all over the world and have been around for as long as women have been sitting together and sharing the knowledge and wisdom that is within. My name is Jill Genet and I am the founder of Red Tent Australia, a non-profit charitable organisation that was established in 2013 in Brisbane with the sole purpose to support women in setting up their own Red Tents in every neighbourhood. Since its birth, Red Tent Australia has created close to 40 branches of Red Tents in towns and cities all over Australia, trained over 100 facilitators, and continues to change countless women's lives.   I returned home to Aotearoa in Jan 2020 and didn't realise how deeply I would grieve the feeling of sitting in Sacred Space each month with a circle of women who supported and loved me. And so, in November of 2020, I launched Red Tent Aotearoa. It has been warmly received and we have been gaining in strength, and connection over these past 6 months.    Recently I have decided to establish Red Tent Aotearoa as a Charitable Trust with the goal of opening branches of Red Tent across Aotearoa so that the women have a safe space to gather, rest, learn, and be nurtured each month.  In order to do this, I need HELP and lots of it.  Do you have non-profit experience? Are you willing to commit to being on the steering committee and or Executive Board?  Please complete this survey by next Sunday- 9th May and share it with anyone you know who would be interested in joining us on this journey.  If you could share it through your Facebook pages and groups and contacts I would be very grateful.  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/L55J6B2 Speaking of Next Sunday- We are gathering once more on 9th May- Mother's Day from 3-6 pm to discuss and experience The Power of Love there are still some spaces available, I truly hope you'll embrace this opportunity to connect with your Mum, Daughter, Sister, or come by yourself and feel nourished. Courageous Conversations is a monthly facilitated mixed-gender discussion held every Full Moon from 6 pm -8:30 pm in The Barn at Cracroft Guiding Center in Christchurch. All are welcome, entry is just $20. The Kaupapa- These events have been created for people who want to learn how to listen with the same passion that they wish to be understood. Too often, we are thinking about our response before the person has even finished speaking.  Secure your spot here  When we learn how to communicate fully with clarity, kindness, and courage there is no situation we cannot manage. During these evenings we will explore different communication styles and always invite attendees to look at things from different perspectives. At these events, we invite everyone to speak so that we can truly see them. Equity, diversity, and inclusion are given precedence in every korero. The topics will be controversial, juicy, taboo, and ALL the things we don’t usually talk about. We invite you to connect on a deeper level so that together we can create a community of courageous, conscious beings who are all working on becoming better humans. What it’s not- It’s not therapy, if you are needing one-on-one treatment and want to speak with a counselor then we suggest you do that. This is an open discussion where everyone is heard and has the opportunity to speak. This is not a rushed, nicey-nice, bright, bustling gathering of quirky games. What it is- This is a slow-building of deep conversations, with muted light, lots of cushions, warm cups of tea and soft blankets, and comfy couches. These circles will be limited to under 20 participants to reserve intimacy and to give the time to go deep. One of the main reasons this event has been created is to transform the social anxiety that we all feel, into the courage to speak up in any situation. Courage is contagious and community is where it grows. These events will not be for the faint of heart, there will be no small talk. Who is it for? People who want to become more courageous in their everyday conversations, to speak the words in their heart, say what they mean, and mean what they say!
